But as the mismatched group waits for the arrival of the hosts — the improbably named Mr. Owen — the weather sours and they find themselves cut off from civilization. Very soon, the guests, each struggling with their conscience, will start to die — one by one, according to the rules of the nursery rhyme ‘Ten Little Soldier Boys’ — a rhyme that hangs in every room of the house and ends with the most terrifying words of all: ‘ and then there were none. Min Under the Dome is based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King. It tells the story of the residents of the small town of Chester’s Mill in Maine, where a massive, transparent, indestructible dome suddenly cuts them off from the rest of the world. With no Internet access, no mobile signals and limited radio communication, the people trapped inside must find their own ways to survive with diminishing resources and rising tensions. While military forces, the government and the media positioned outside of this surrounding barrier attempt to break it down, a small group of people inside attempt to figure out what the dome is, where it came from, and when (and if) it will go away. Min Friday the 13th: The Series is an American-Canadian horror television series that ran for three seasons, from October 3, 1987 to May 26, 1990 in first-run syndication. The series follows Micki and Ryan, owners of an antiques store, and their assistant, Jack Marshak, as they try to recover cursed antiques, to put them into safety in the store’s vault. Originally, the series was to be titled The 13th Hour, but producer Frank Mancuso, Jr. Thought this would turn away viewers and instead took the name Friday the 13th to deliberately draw in audiences. Despite this title, the series has no story connections to the film series of the same name, as Jason Voorhees does not make an appearance, nor does any character connected to the films. In the United Kingdom it was listed on TV schedules as Fridays Curse, though when going to advertisement breaks on ITV it would show as Friday the 13th: The series. The two series have several cast and crew ties, however. The show’s producer, Frank Mancuso, Jr., was producer of the movie series from Friday the 13th Part 2 until the final installment distributed by Paramount. The show’s star, John D. LeMay, went on to star in Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, guest star John Shepherd played Tommy Jarvis in Friday the 13th: A New Beginning, and episode director David Cronenberg appeared in Jason X. Fred Mollin, Rob Hedden, and Tom McLoughlin worked behind the scenes of both series. And Lakewood is perfect for sports enthusiasts. As the situation gets more and more dire, like a noose closing around someone's neck, John Hurt and Hugh Dancy have their moments to shine, just like the whole cast is really convincing. While some Christian analogies are maybe a little over the top, the movie is still extremely thrilling, frustrating and sad. Showing pictures of the crew members who lost someone in the genocide before the end credits basically makes it impossible not to be touched by this really powerful and important film, that would have deserved as much attention as Hotel Rwanda. ![]() Rian Johnson Will Start Shooting His Original Star Wars Trilogy This Year in Scotland. In this freewheeling comedy from the director of The Maid, Michael Cera (Arrested Development, Superbad) stars as Jamie, a shaggy, boorish young American traveling through Chile. While searching for a rare hallucinogen-the famed San Pedro cactus-with a trio of Chilean brothers, Jamie invites a mysterious hippie (Gaby Hoffmann) along for the ride, but her free-spirited personality quickly clashes with his self-absorption. Crystal Fairy & The Magical Cactus & 2012 is about a trip to a trip on mescaline. Jamie is an American who is with his friend in Chile. They plan on finding a San Pedro cactus and taking to the beach where they will cook and drink it. At a party, the night before leaving, Jamie does a lot of cocaine and invites a hippy to come along with them. He completely forgets this the next day and is surprised when she calls him to meet up with them. Jaime's character is irritating, annoying, and just plain selfish. Because of his hastiness to get where they're going and to do mescaline, he misses the trip within the trip. My big problem with Crystal Fairy is that of a lot movies that try to deal with the hallucinogenic drug awakening. It just doesn't seem like it can be done on film in way that actually gives justice to substances like mescaline and LSD, and how they trigger critical thinking and change your consciousness. This seems to just be a limit that film can't pass. Overall though, Crystal Fairy is a decent film, if you have the patience necessary for the road trip and for Jamie's character in general. He's the type of person that needs a great deal of understanding and patience from the audience. * Sometimes I amaze myself at the movies I will sit through because it gets nominated for awards. This movie was up for some Spirit awards(actress, and a few others), it stars Michael Cera, so I figured Why Not? It's about a group traveling through Chile to get a drug out of a cactus to get high, then they have a bunch of drama amongst themselves on a beach. It has a few funny moments, but overall it's boring, incoherent, and just not very good or entertaining. I like Michael Cera, but this is one of his movies that is just dumb(kind of like how 'Paper Heart' was dumb). The hippie girl he picks up played by Gaby Hoffman is good, but nowhere near deserving of any award nomination on any planet. This is weird, and a big time wasting movie(another gem I watched off of Netflix). Of course, I should be surprised that a movie called 'Crystal Fairy and the Magical Cactus' is bad. Don't bother at all with this, unless you're on the drugs they are searching for. Uptight drug tourist Jamie (a shaggy Micheal Cera) has spent months planning a night of tripping on a hallucinogenic cactus with his Chilean hosts, but is annoyed when a free-spirited hippy chick named Crystal Fairy (an unshaven Gaby Hoffman) tags along with her own ideas about how to conduct the ceremony. There aren't too many surprises in this manic-fairy-trip-girl drama, but it's notable for the acting, and because it covers a unique psychedelic subculture that rarely makes it into the movies. ![]() 2/6/2018 0 Comments The Lion King 1½Synopsis The must-own comedy for every 'Lion King' fan! Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton also are back to pen the script, which details the exploits of serial killer Jigsaw's surviving victims, who seek counseling from a self-help mentor (Sean Patrick Flanery) whose past as a previous victim figures directly into each one's fate. Cary Elwes returns to the franchise for the first time since his character survived Jigsaw's first cinematic outing in 2004. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, Rovi •. The final chapter at last! Really enjoyed all the Saw films, but even I'll admit the whole franchise has been milked way too much. This last installment is more of the same, surprise surprise, but most fans should be satisfied enough. It's all extremely fast-paced and doesn't stop to take a breather at all and picks up where the sixth one left us with a wounded detective Hoffman continuing his twisted games of carnage and also leaving a bloody mess behind against those who threaten to reveal his identity. Lots of gore and dismemberment fly all over the place with the help of 3D effects and with at least one of the traps making it into my top 10 there's lots to enjoy for lovers of ultraviolence. I was expecting something special when it came to the trademark twist ending but it didn't quite have the impact I was hoping for to be honest, but it was a fitting conclusion to the franchise. As long as another doesn't come along to ruin it. Not quite my favourite of the sequels but it was a worthwhile effort I thought. My new boss said she just watched the first 2 or 3 of this series (and horror's her favorite genre), stating that 'they're all the same'. I agree, but I disagree. Each one has a plot that's slightly different from the one before (like, who's in charge, Jigsaw dies, etc.), but.this series is one of my favorites ever, because from the very first movie (which I never saw until last year), the traps, or 'games' have had me hooked and I've wanted to see all the ideas they could come up with. Only one 'Saw' movie has left me disappointed, but it wasn't this one! It’s been one of those weeks—you know the kind where it feels like the whole world is out to get you and you’ll never make it to the weekend? That kind of week. And all that stress put me in the mood for a little violence. In a way, I needed to see a person’s head pried open with a bear trap to unwind, and that bear trap needed to be in 3-D. But, after seeing Saw 3D, perhaps this thirst for hideous violence was an overreaction. In fact, if I could erase the images that are now burned into my psyche—even though it would mean that two loved ones would also be erased in the process—I’d do it. Unfortunately, the technology does not exist. So, instead, I’m going to answer every question you could possibly have about Saw 3D. Q: What is the first trap in Saw 3D? A: Three members of a love triangle are in close proximity to saw blades set by Jigsaw. As expected, one member of said love triangle is killed. 3-D entrails are involved. Q: Wait, I thought Jigsaw was dead. Is Jigsaw in Saw 3D? A: Yes, but only in flashbacks. Q: If Jigsaw is dead, who is setting the traps? A: That would be Hoffman, Jigsaw’s former partner who is on the hunt for Jigsaw’s wife. Q: Why is Hoffman looking for Jigsaw’s wife? ![]() A: Because she tried to kill him. Now she has gone to the police to seek protection from one of Hoffman’s adversaries, Gibson. Q: Does Saw 3D have a plot? The plot focuses on a man named Bobby (Sean Patrick Flanery). Lawrence Gordon, M.D. Also, the fact that he survived the events of Saw was officially confirmed with his reappearance at the end of Saw 3D. Saw 3D (also known as Saw: The Final Chapter, or simply Saw VII) is a 2010 American 3D horror film directed by Kevin Greutert, written by Patrick Melton and Marcus. Bobby is on a publicity tour for having survived an encounter with Jigsaw. Bobby’s story is completely fabricated, which doesn’t sit well with Hoffman. Q: When is the 15-year anniversary of Flanery’s role in Powder? A: That was this past Wednesday. And I’m sure the only reason we didn’t heard about the 15-year cast reunion and commemorative Blu-ray edition is because it was overshadowed by all the Back to the Future hullabaloo. Or, more likely, there was no party and there is no special edition Blu-ray. Q: What does Bobby’s publicity tour entail? A: A book tour, some television appearances, and a self-help group attended by other victims, such as Dr. Gordon (Cary Elwes) and Simone (Tanedra Howard), who had to cut off her own arm in Saw VI. Q: Was Tanedra Howard nominated for an Oscar for her brave portrayal of a woman who has to cut off her own arm in order to save her life? Q: When is the last time Cary Elwes appeared in the Saw franchise? A: The original Saw, in 2004. Q: What is Elwes’s role in Saw 3D? A: Well, it’s kind of a surprise (do people go to Saw movies for plot surprises?), but the movie opens with the aftermath of his foot amputation from the original film. (He also attends the aforementioned therapy sessions as a sarcastic heckler.) Q: Is this Cary Elwes’s greatest performance ever? A: Elwes’s greatest role will always be Russ Wheeler in Days of Thunder. Q: How many heads are actually ripped open by a bear trap in Saw 3D? A: Only one, sadly. Q: How bad is the bear problem in the industrial city in which Saw 3D takes place? A: I’m not sure. But bears have been known to adapt quite well to city life. Q: So what happens to Bobby? A: Everyone close to Bobby, including his wife who married him because of his fraudulent story, is captured. Bobby must run through a gauntlet of traps in order to save them—first he must save his publicist, who is in danger of having blades run through her throat, “silencing her forever.” Q: Can you honestly tell me there wasn’t the slightest bit of Schadenfreude, considering that the victim was a publicist? A: Absolutely not. Publicists are the backbone of this country. If I had to rank professions in order from one to five on what defines a hero, I’d say: Soldier, Fireman, Police Officer, Publicist, Astronaut. Q: I’ve never seen a Saw movie. Should I see Saw 3D? A: If you have never seen a Saw movie, and, now, seven films in, you’re thinking that’s it’s finally time to check one out—please seek help. Q: Wasn’t this your first Saw movie? On another note, my competency hearing is this coming Tuesday. Q: What is the worst fate to befall one of the victims in Saw 3D? A: The person who is cooked alive suffers a quite gruesome death. Q: Cooked alive? Is there a worse fate than that? A: The only trap I can think of that would be more sinister would be a room where the first five episodes of Outsourced play in a continuous loop. Q: So you enjoyed watching Saw 3D more than Outsourced? A: If I had to choose between watching Saw 3D once a day for an entire year, or Outsourced once a week for an entire year, I would pick Saw 3D. Q: If you’re going to be blurbed in this weekend’s commercials for Saw 3D, what do you hope it will be? A: “If I had to choose between watching Saw 3D once a day for an entire year, or Outsourced once a week for an entire year, I would pick Saw 3D!” -Mike Ryan, Vanity Fair Q: Is there a moral lesson in Saw 3D? A: One of the traps has four white supremacists. To disarm the trap, one of the supremacists must perform an act where his skin is ripped from his body. As the Jigsaw puppet says, “we are all the same color on the inside.” Poignant. Q: How old was Harrison Ford when he played Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark? A: 39 Q: How old is Sean Patrick Flanery, who played Indiana Jones in 1992’s The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles? And, no, in case you’re going to ask, he looks nothing like Harrison Ford in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Q: If I’m at a cocktail party and I’m asked what my opinions of Saw 3D are, even though I haven’t seen the movie, what should I say? A: You should run, because if you’re being asked this at a cocktail party, whoever is asking you this question is obviously trying to distract you while the police are called. Abel's Field. Under enormous pressure, Seth is lured toward a desperate decision. Will a reluctant Abel point him back toward the light? It would seem that Seth McCardle has been dealt a losing hand in life. After his mother died, his father abandoned him and his two young sisters. His own brother, Keith, wants nothing to do with him. He works multiple jobs trying to provide for his sisters. He is bullied daily at school by members of the football team. It couldn’t get worse. When he fights back to the bullies, he is singled out for punishment and is assigned to work detail with the groundskeeper, Abel. As it turns out, Abel may be the only person on the planet that understands the struggles that young Seth faces. Is a compelling story that shows that you always have a choice, even when it may seem there is none. It showcases the devastating effect alcoholism can have on a family, as well as the determination of one young man to rise above it all. The friendship between Abel and Seth, though unlikely, is believable and both are struggling with decisions they have made and that they need to make. It also emphasizes that Jesus forgives sins, and that we have to forgive ourselves. Hubs and I enjoyed watching this movie. That being said, I was disturbed by the fact that Seth left his sisters in the care of Abel when he barely knew them. I am a freak about who I let watch my kids, and that would never happen. It also bothered me that it wasn’t until the school offered him a full time position that they would run a background check, with fingerprints, on Abel. I don’t want anyone working with my kids, part time or not, that hasn’t submitted to a background check. All in all, we are glad we added to our DVD shelf.
